From trade point of view Gems and Jewellery has been one of the largest foreign exchange earners for India and substantial potential needs to be tapped at home. It is therefore highly necessary that people associated with the trade receive training and carry out the operations scientifically and professionally so as to achieve greater success. In today’s world of modern synthetic gems , it is no longer safe to rely on one’s senses for identification of a wide variety of Gems. Today in India the Gems & Jewellery scenario is undergoing a positive change with diamonds and stones like Tanzanite, Tourmalines, Peridots dominating the consumer preference. At the same time traditionally preferred Gems like Rubies, Sapphires and Emeralds have maintained a consistent position.

The INDIAN INSTITUTE OF GEMOLOGY was founded by MR. GURMIT SINGH, an FGA (UK) from Gemmological Association and Gem Testing Laboratory of Great Britain, London. He has also studied at the Gemological Institute of America, New York and The Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences in Thailand.
He is a widely traveled Gemologist and has travelled to U.S.A, Europe and most parts of South East Asia.
He has attended various gemological events like International Gem Conferences and various Gems & Jewellery Shows held around the world.
He has a rich experience of teaching people from various parts of the world from countries like U.S.A, Canada, Japan, Australia, Ireland, Uganda, Kenya, Lithuania, Russia etc.

Gemology - The World of Gems
Private Individual Courses
To suit the requirements of people on a short stay or with tight timing schedules the institute holds private individual courses. All the 3 courses being conducted by the institute can each be tailor made into a course of 20-25 classes of 1.5 hours each to suit the requirements of a person undertaking it. The timings of such classes shall be decided as per mutual convenience. The fee for such a course shall be decided on an individual basis.
