ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION CRITERIA

Candidates must have qualified 10 + 2 or equivalent / Higher Secondary / Senior Secondary or equivalent examination from a Recognised Educational Institution. Enrolment to the courses is limited and based on Interview / Admission criteria as finalised by the Instructor Gemologist / Committee from time to time. However, IIG reserves the right of selection.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION AND EXMAINATION

The medium of instruction and examination(s) of the IIG certificate Course (s) is English.

AGE LIMIT

The minimum age required is 18 years. There is no maximum age limit. However the physical faculties of the person like eye-sight etc. should be all right.

FEES

The fees for the course are as per the schedule of tentative start/ timing and fees being supplied herewith under the heading"Commencement of Courses". The fees for the above courses are payable in advance by Cash / Bank Draft/ Money Order in favour of INDIAN INSTITUTE OF GEMOLOGY, NEW DELHI

Cancellation:-

Should you be unable to attend after being selected then the fees shall be refunded minus a 20% processing charge any time before start of the course on working days during office hours. No refund shall be made after start of the course or thereafter.

HOW TO APPLY

Registration

The candidate can register one’s name for admission by submitting the completely filled  prescribed application form which can be downloaded from heading                    " ADMISSION FORM " along with a Registration Fee of Rupees 200 in Cash/MO/BankDraft which can be submitted at the office of the Insititute in Person or by Post. After this, one shall be informed of the exact date of start and interview date when the admission of the course opens.

Admission

The Candidate who is not registered earlier is required to fill up the prescribed application which can be downloaded from heading "ADMISSION FORM" and submit it before the last date of submission along with a registration Fee of Rupee 200 by Cash/MO/BankDraft at the office of the institute. If found suitable as per the admission criteria / he /she shall be called for an interview. If selected there in he/she shall be required to deposit the necessary fees within the prescribed time period. However, for outstation candidates the application must be accompanied by the bank draft towards the fees of the course at the time of submission of the application form.

PASSING AND AWARD OF CERTIFICATE

After the successful completion of various tests / quizzes, the students must pass a practical examination in Gem Identification and a written examination in theory for Course No.1 For Course No.2 a written examination in theory and a practical examination in Diamond Grading must be passed.

Similarly for course No.3 a written examination in theory and practical examination in advanced gem identification must be passed.

The passing grade for practical examinations is 80% and written examination is 75%

On successful completion of the course(s) the student is awarded IIG CERTIFICATE(S) IN GEMOLOGY.

However for Course No.4 (INDIVIDUAL COURSES) only a ‘LETTER OF COMPLETION’ awarded.

THE INSTITUTE FACULTY AND LABORATORY

The training for the IIG Course(s) is carried out by highly qualified instructors. The Gemologist- Instructor trains the students in theoretical and practical aspects of Gemology. His lectures and practical training forms the basis of the course(s). The laboratory is well equipped with the necessary equipments /gadgets required for practical training. It also maintains a stock of gem materials required for practical demonstrations. The size of the class is limited so that each student receives personal attention. However, it is necessary for the students to attend classes regularly and work-hard to succeed.

GENERAL RULES & REGUALTIONS

  • Students are required to handle Gemstones / materials given to them for practicals carefully and not indulge in carelessness or deliberate misplacement.
  • The instruments, gadgets and other working equipment and materials at the institute and laboratory are costly and sophisticated, therefore great care is to be taken while using and handling them.
  • The students are required to have 80% attendance in order to qualify for the IIG Examination. The subject matter taken up once in the class shall not be repeated. The students who are absent or miss the subject matter may cover it up with the help of their class fellows. In exceptional cases the instructor/management may consider the case on its merits or circumstances.
  • The students are in addition to follow general discipline and etiquette and other rules and regulations which come up from time to time. The students who do not adhere to disciplinary requirements and rules and regulations are liable to be disqualified from the institute.
  • Classes are subject to Government and other holidays of the institute.
  • On rare occasions IIG may be forced to postpone/reschedule/or cancel a course. Outstation candidates must therefore confirm the exact date of start one week before the scheduled date. The course shall be started only if the required minimum number of candidates is achieved. The institute shall not be responsible for any liability whatsoever arising out of such a situation.
  • The fees, duration timings and starting dates of the courses given in the Tentative Schedule of Fees, Duration, Timings and Starting dates are subject to change from time to time. Therefore these must be confirmed before start of each session.
  • All disputes are subject to Delhi Jurisdiction.

ACCOMMODATION-HOSTEL FACILITIES

Hostel accommodation is not provided by Indian Institute of Gemology. However, the institute will be happy to provide names and addresses of hotels and guest houses near the institute.
