Gems and Jewellery exports have been one of our
star performers in
the country's export drive during the last decade and more. The sector provides
employment to several lakh trained artisans. For entrepreneurs wishing to enter
this important and remunerative field of activity, it is essential to acquire a
good grounding in the techniques of testing and grading of gem stones and other Jewellery
items. The Indian Institute of Gemology, which was started in 1991, is evidently
playing a very useful role in imparting these skills. I have no doubt that the
Institute will continue to upgrade its teaching methods and testing instruments
in accordance with the evolution of best practices that are taking place
globally. The acquisition of international quality certification by the
Institute will further enhance its credibility as a centre of excellence.
My best wishes for the Institute's continued progress and
success.

offered by your Institute will certainly help in generating foreign exchange for the country.
I hope that your institute will be able to achieve the purpose
for which it has been established.
